Alex and Chris went to a local ice cream place got their favorites, and then walked out on a local breakwater and watched the sunset together. They didn't talk much, they just sat together and held hands. Other than their first kiss, and a kiss goodnight, not much really happened between the two girls but as they stood face to face on her doorstep Chris realized how much her attitude had changed. She didn't want to go back to being male if it meant being "just friends" with Alex again. She felt like she had found her place in the world.
She smiled. "I had fun," she told Alex.
Alex smiled too, "So did I." Alex noticed something, "Look," she pointed at the necklace which was now glowing ever so slightly.
"I guess it's recharged. That's a relief."
"I just hope everything works out," Alex hesitated, then continued, "Even if people don't find your transformation odd that doesn't mean they're going to like it," Alex paused again. "No matter what happens, I'll always be here for you." Alex reached out and hugged Chris.
Chris hugged her back and said, "I know."
The hug ended and Alex asked, "See you tomorrow?" Chris nodded. After Alex left Chris went up to her room and was, for the first time, glad that her clothing had changed along with her. She wanted to look good for Alex tomorrow, both as a thank you and to show Alex that she had accepted what happened to her. Alex had been right, the clothing was not slutty. Even though almost all of it was clearly female only a few things were overtly sexual. Chris started trying these things on.
Unfortunately, the mirror over her dresser just didn't seem adequate. She wanted to be able to see her entire body at once. That called for a full length mirror, like the one her mother had down stairs. She put on a crop top and a knee length pleated skirt then went down to look at herself in the full length mirror.
When she looked in the mirror she certainly found herself attractive, and hoped that Alex did as well. Chris was on her way back to her room, feeling good about her future as a lesbian, when her parents came through the front door. In a moment she forgot what the old man had said about the necklace's power, forgot her high hopes for tomorrow, and forgot everything else except for the fact that she, who was male just one day before, was now standing in front of her parents as a girl in definitively female clothing. She froze in terror.
Her parents immediately stopped talking to each other and looked at her. Luggage was dropped. Her father was the first to speak, "Is this what you're wearing now?" When Chris stammered that she had been thinking about wearing it tomorrow her father grunted in disapproval, picked up his luggage, and walked to his room. Chris watched him go in silence. She realized the necklace must be working, because her father was focusing on clothing, not gender.
Her mother smiled and said, "Well, this is a new look for you." After a beat she added, "I like it."
