Nate had always hated math. Oh the simple stuff, addition and subtraction was no problem, but whenever his teachers talked about fractions or percentages, the numbers seeemed to swim in his head and he always got confused. Ruefully, he trudged home with his report card. A "D". This sucked.
On his way home he saw a new dollar store had opened. Wanting to waste time, he entered and looked around. The stuff here seemed pretty old, no wonder it was selling for so cheap.
And then he saw it. "The Math-Magic Calculator! Makes Math Fun!"
It was a large box that showed a pair of kids his age solving math problems with an oversized calculator, the paper was faded, and it looked like it had been made in the 1950's.
But c'mon it's only a buck...and what if it could help?
So Nate bought the calculator and a soda, and went home.
