"Wait a minute," said Rose, "what do I do?"
"Well, I'm not going to be unable to do much, so you need to help me get the baby out."
"I'm a librarian! I don't know how to do that!"
Carrie replied, "Cut the cord. Clean up. I think I can use the remote to clean up any really bad problems. Just do it, okay?"
Carrie pressed some buttons and said "Aaaah! My water's breaking and it should be out any moment..."
"Labor isn't that fast," said the librarian.
"It is now," she answered. Soon she had her pants off and was lying on the floor, helpless. At least most of the mess was on the librarian's old clothes. "I see it... come on... it's out! You did it, a day of labor in a minute..." She wasn't sure how to cut the cord but tried a big cardboard-cutting knife, hoping that the remote could take care of any problems like Carrie said. But after that, she saw another head and realized it wasn't over. "Wait a minute. It's coming... It's out."
Carrie said nothing and Rose continued. "Twins. Look, I read enough I can tell you that identical twins happen a while after conception when the embryo splits up. You aged Todd back to before that. Before conception even. So it's possible that this time he became twins when he didn't last time."
Carrie tried to sit up but barely could until she fiddled with the remote and aged herself a few days so she didn't feel like she had just given birth. Fortunately this made the blood and fluid and the rest of the mess disappear too. She picked up the two babies--they were quite heavy--and tried to decide what to do next.
