As weeks passed her letters from the children faded as Angie's hope faded on having her family return home. Alex and Frank were the first to stop writing and the letter from Mr. Hopper telling her of their illness made her cry.
Angie read the letter over and over, each time one sentence caught her imagination. "The boys are finding new way's to play and forget their pains" strange that the boys would want to play if they were sick and in pain," thought Angie.
The farm work was now handled mostly by workers sent over from the Foundation. Angie would ask about her sons and what anyone had heard but none of the people could say they even heard of the boys. Till one afternoon Angie was in the stable carring for Betty one of the Belgian horses as she was soon to foal.
Smoking was not permitted in any building so the workers needing a smoke grouped outside. Angie heard two men talking about what she thought they said Andrew. "Hey have you seen that Brahma bull Hopper' used the Flux process on, wow does he mount cow after cow. I bet the kid never thought a year ago he'd be the prime sire of a hybred herd!"
"Quiet stupid, if the lady finds out what's going on Hopper could have you humping sows till it's time for market. If you ask me Hopper will have all of us as part of the experiment in time since we know too much as how he got it started. You know the Foundation's Board Members didn't authorize Hopper's newest goals. I heard him talking about that newest guy becoming a stallion to sire another hybred, so best beware of what you say!"
That night Betty delivered a pretty black Belgian colt. Angie officiated since the local Vet was off on a fishing trip at the Foundation. As morning approached Angie washed up from the mare's burst water and mucus which clung to her entire front. The delight to see mother and colt together made Angie cry for her children and husband.
As she showered her head ached and lower back pain hit her with jolt after jolt sometimes making her cry out in pain.
After her shower and some quick brekfast she decided to rest on her bed. It was almost dusk when Angie awoke, her back ached but her chest drew her attention. Hair two inch black hairs were growing out of her chest. Some thicker stops were around her nipples and thinned as it spread toward her stomac.
Quickly she got up and raced to the bathroom mirror. Indeed the hair was growing out of her skin. In looking close the dark color of her nipples was spreading as the hair grew. Shaking her head produced another funny feeling. Parting her hair she saw ears no her own covered in black short hair and pointed like a horse's.
Unbelieved changes were happening all night. Angie stayed indoors till midnight and then had to check on the colt. As she entered the stable the stallion and mare turned and snorted a warning of an approaching unknown creature. Try as she could the mare fought her ground and held Angie from getting close.
