The morning sun shone through the curtains and onto the sleeping face of Dawn, coiled up in herself and slowly returning to the world. Eventually she woke up properly and tried to get out of bed, only to fall into a pile on the floor as she tried to use legs she did not have. It was then that the events of yesterday came rushing back to her.
With a moan she righted herself and get herself changed for the day. She opted out of having a shower today. The last thing she wanted to do was have to deal with that amount of contact with her new body nude and she wasn't even sure about how she would go about it properly any more, unless the bath was considerably larger now. Besides, if all went well, she would be out of this body in a few hours anyway.
Having now got dressed, Dawn slithered precariously down the stairs to get some breakfast. Her dad had already set off for work and Joey was not awake yet so it was just her mum up and about.
With a sigh she coiled herself in her place at the end of the table and poured herself a bowl of cereal. At another place, her mum looked at her with a concerned face.
"Is something wrong, Dawn?" she asked, "You seem down about something."
"I'd rather not talk about it" replied Dawn
"Has something happened?" asked her mum, "You know you can talk to me about nearly anything."
"Well," said Dawn, "This just happens to fall outside of 'nearly everything'. I'm sorry but I don't know if I'm looking forward to today or dreading it."
"Well, if you don't want to say right now then that's fine." said her mum, "Just keep your head up high and it will all work out."
Dawn looked up from her bowl "Is there any way you could have possibly made that sound any more cheesy?" she asked
"I could do a little song for it if you like." said her mum playfully
"I'll pass" said Dawn.
The rest of the morning passed without incident, the same went for the bus ride to school. After the bus stopped and everyone got off, Dawn found Tony waiting for her.
"Hi Dawn" said Tony
"Hey" said Dawn, "I have a free period first so I was planning on going to the library to look for that book, when do you reckon you could join me?"
"My first lesson is off so I could go over now if you want" said Tony, "I have nothing better to do so I'll see if I can be of help."
"Thanks Tony" said Dawn, "I knew I could count on you."
At this time in the morning (just the same as most of the day to be honest), the library was completely empty so the pair would not be bothering anyone in their search. For a while they randomly pulled books off shelves to see if they found anything but before long Tony had to ask a question.
"Hey Dawn," he called, "What does this book look like anyway?"
"It was an old thick one with an odd design on the front. All the text was in some weird foreign and possibly ancient language and it was filled with pictures of strange creatures and stuff."
"I don't think I've ever seen a book like that in the library" said Tony
"Yes bug chances are you've never even seen a dictionary in a library given how you've barely ever been into one." replied Dawn
"Point taken" said Tony
It was after half an hour of looking, chatting and a touch of
messing about, that Tony managed to find himself in a rather
difficult situation. While trying to get to some book on the a top
shelf, he managed to pull on the bookshelf, bringing the whole thing
down on top of him in a loud crash.
Startled by the sudden sound Dawn looked over to see a scene
taken straight out of a comedy, with Tony buried under a mound of
paper with just like an arm poking out from underneath.
Fortunately for him, the bookshelf itself was not that heavy so it was not too hard for dawn to lift it up off him, although it was a bit more difficult than she remembered something of that weight being when she was a boy.
Groaning, mainly in embarrassment, Tony reached over and lifted a book up from his face only to leap up in surprise.
It was the book.
