The trio carefully opened the covers and looked inside the tome. Skimming from page to page they saw it was completely filled with mythical beings of all shapes and sizes. The only connections between them was that they were all partially human, and they were all covered in the same mysterious text.
And that wasn't all it contained. There were indeed pages on humans, both male and female....what was also disturbing is that they seemed to cover both inside and outside. There were vastly intricate diagrams of the human organs and blood supply and even things that seemed reminiscent of chakra points or something similar. It was as though the book was some repository for all things human in some way.
However, one thing they did find was that no matter what they did, they could not make the thing do anything. There was no blue glow, no shifts in reality, no changes, nothing. Just dust and disappointment.
"This book is amazing..." gasped Rachael
"Yeah but its not helping us any" snapped Tanya
"Perhaps we have to read it?" guessed Dawn, "Or there is some special way of activating it?"
"But how are we going to find that?" asked Tanya in irritation, slamming the book closed "None of us even know what language this is in, if it is even a known language, never mind read it!"
Dawn was about to say something to try to ease the rapidly building tension when the door the the office creaked open and someone walked in. It was a boy, tallish, scrawny, with dark brown hair and glasses on. The group recognised him but did not know his name.
Walking in he noticed the group and their unusual state of dress and seemed to be slightly bewildered for a second before turning away as he realised he was staring rudely. Going over to a cupboard in the corner his eye caught the cover of the book in front of them. It seemed to catch his interest for some reason and he seemed to want to take a closer look.
After a couple of seconds just looking at it he turned to the girls and finally spoke. "Ummm" he murmered, "Is that in Greek?"
The girls were rather taken aback by this. The irony was not lost on them as they realised they may have found themselves a clue.
"We don't know" said Dawn
"Could I take a look?" asked the boy
"Don't!" warned Tanya, "You don't want to have anything to do with this book. It's dangerous!"
"Why?" asked the boy, "It's just a book..."
"Look, just believe us on this" said Tanya
"I'm sorry" said Rachael, "but even if we told you you wouldn't believe us."
Dawn, however, was considering otherwise....
