"We can explain the little we know later" interrupted Tanya, "Where's the book gone?"
She was right. The book had vanished without a trace. None of them could think how it could have gone anywhere, but gone it had.
"We've looked everywhere" said Tanya, after much frantic searching, "It's like this thing can teleport itself or something!"
"Perhaps it can." said Dawn, "It vanished when I found it, it may have done when you found it. For all we know it put itself in Rachael's bag as well as thrown itself to the floor before Kalvin picked it up. This book seems to be able to transform people, render them unconscious and mess around with realities, multiple or otherwise. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it could move itself."
"What are you saying?" asked Tanya, "The book is alive or something?"
"I don't know" said Dawn, "But given the amount of power it has shown so far, there may well be something consciously directing it, and if the speed it works is anything to go by, its getting stronger."
The room fell silent as the group pondered what this meant for them. Well, all of the group but one, Kalvin, who's primary concern at that point was covering herself up.
"Umm" she said nervously, "Could one of you help me find something to wear. I'm not comfortable with being nude like this."
The other girls looked at her which did not help matters but then quickly turned away to look for something to give the poor girl. Their immediate thought was that this was going to be rather difficult, seeing as you didn't really find garments meant for 6 inch girls with insect wings on a regular basis, probably due to the general lack of viable customers, but sure enough, in a drawer with a bunch of other gowns the same as they were wearing, they found a miniature version with most of the back missing.
Slightly taken aback by the seemingly colossal hand that give it to her, Kalvin took the garment and put it on. It was strange to be wearing something on her new body, and the fact that her wings and hair had kept getting in the way throughout the whole thing. As she finished putting it on, she saw something that caught her eye. It was a shoulder bag. To her it looked normal size but due to the scale she was at it was obviously tiny, meaning it could only be hers. Looking inside she found sized down versions of her possessions including the thing she had had in her clothes. Checking her 'new' student ID, she saw a photo of her new face and the name that went with it; Kate Park. Sure enough, just to finish the job and drive in the last nail, right next to the new species category it now read Fairy.
"So is this my life now?" asked Kate gloomily, "An absurdly diminutive girl with bug wings?"
Dawn put her hand (well, a couple of fingers) on her shoulder as a comfort but did not say anything. What would she say? Don't worry it will all be fine? She didn't know that. In fact, with every passing hour she doubted it even more. Right now, all she could do was be there. Right now, that's all any of them could do.
