Paige awoke with a sigh. It had been six weeks since the accident that made her a widow. She'd spent most of her time since the funeral in a state of total depression, with no energy to speak of. But today, she woke, tired of crying and moping around.
Zane wouldn't want her to be sad, she knew that. Getting up out of bed, she took a long hot shower, and then slipped into a robe, heading to the kitchen to make breakfast.
She remembered how much Zane liked her walking around the house in nothing but her bathrobe, which was short and showed off her legs. She smiled, even as she blinked away the tears.
Zane was, simply put, a genius. Passionate, erratic, and occasionally absent-minded, but he could grasp ideas that Paige, who herself sported a 130 IQ, couldn't in a million years.
But they'd been good for each other, and now it was hard to start over, without her "Zany". The accident had happened at his work, there'd been an explosion, and the details were kept quiet. Some men from Zane's company had shown up at the house several times, wanting to collect his things, but anything here was his property, and she'd finally filed an injunction blocking the company's attempts to seize his work. She might not be a genius, but she understood how the law worked.
Still...she also hadn't been in the basement in weeks. Unlocking the door, she headed downstairs, lights flickering on as she tripped unseen motion detectors.
As usual, the place was a mess, old pizza boxes, dust and clutter everywhere. She sighed and got to work.
A few hours later, the place looked as good as new, and she retreated upstairs for a second shower. This time she got dressed; to her suprise, her jeans were loose around her waist. She'd lost a lot of weight over the past few weeks. Her breasts had shrunk a bit as well. With a sigh, she found a belt and put on one of Zane's shirts, which came down to mid-thigh on her. It was black and proclaimed, in white lettering: "Property of Undercity Athletic Department", the name of her and Zane's old Warcraft guild. She felt she ought to log on tonight, to see if any of their friends was still around.
Putting on some socks and shoes, she headed downstairs again, but this time, she noticed something.
