Perched on a special rack was what looked like a raygun from some old science fiction movie. It had clear plastic parts, and emitted strange lights. Picking it up, it felt almost weightless, and she noticed a button on the grip, perhaps a safety?
She pressed it, still wary of the trigger.
"Select Disruption Mode." The gun spoke...with her voice!
"Uh...wah?" She blinked.
"You are now holding the prototype for the Selective Reality Disruptor. This device can make alterations in local space/time subject to the commands of the user. The weapon is biometrically locked; if you have not been designated as a user, it will not function."
"Oh...um...who has been designated as users?" She felt odd, asking a gun questions, especially one that spoke with her voice!
"Zane Franklin and Paige Franklin."
Why would Zane let her use the gun? What was it's purpose?
"What can you do?"
"Select Active Mode."
"Um...random!"
"Random settings...one moment..."
The weapon seemed to hum and the lights changed colors.
"Settings altered. Reality Disruptor set for regression mode, buffering on."
"Regression mode?"
"Reality Disruptor currently in regression mode. Do you wish to turn buffering off?"
"Uh..no. Help."
"Help topic: regression mode. Discharging the Reality Disruptor at a target will cause it to revert along the temporal access. With buffering off, living subjects will revert totally, forgetting their "future" relative to the point of regression. Others will be aware of the changes as well."
"Um...buffering on."
"Regression mode, buffering on."
"Help."
"Help topic: regression mode. Discharging the Reality Disruptor at a target will cause it to revert along the temporal access. With buffering on, living subjects will retain memory of the "present". Warning! Buffering mode is not fully tested. Subjects may not be aware of regression. Others may not be aware of any change. Use with discretion."
Paige frowned. Well that was bloody helpful. What was she supposed to do with this thing anyways?
