The urge to press the button was overpowering, and before she could think better of it, Paige pressed it.
Time slowed to a crawl; though she was aware of her surroundings, Paige couldn't move. The room seemed to stretch, the bench and the box seeming to get farther and farther away from her, until it shrank away to nothingness in the distance.
Slowly, she was able to look up, to see the ceiling rocket away from her as well. The room had become incredibly vast. The stairs seemed to be miles away from her now. What this was doing to the rest of the house, she couldn't say.
Without any better ideas, she began to walk towards the stairs. As she moved forward, it seemed that her arms and legs stretched out longer. She nearly tripped, and wondered if she could trust her eyes.
She reached her arm forward, and it did indeed seem to stretch out farther. But when she retracted it, it was the same size it had always been. Was the machine trying to stretch her out the same way it had affected the room?
On impulse, she lay down on the floor. Her feet seemed to stretch away from her, as did her outstretched arms. A few minutes later, and her feet touched the far wall. She could feel it, though she couldn't even see them.
Then her hands touched the other two walls. Her arms and legs seemed to be miles long! She rolled over and tried to get up, not an easy thing to do when your limbs are super long.
But somehow she managed, and her head banged into the ceiling, which caused her to black out for a moment.
When she came to, the room was back to normal, but...
