As Dana approached the building, she saw it already becoming twisted
from the outside in. Gothic sculpture replaced the team spirit
statues. She clenched her fists -- this was stupid. What about when
the army finds out? Astara didn't seem to understand she was
outnumbered and outgunned, she didn't even stop to listen to Dana
about why her plan might be foolhardy.
Even whatever part of her wanted to go along with this revolted
somewhat. As she stepped in the doors, she casually looked over her
shoulder as they sealed finally.
She turned around and stared at the door. No, she didn't have to go
along with this, not on Astara's terms anyway. Focusing intently, she
willed the door to open. To her shock, a bolt leaped out from her
palm and struck them open.
There. If it came to it, the students could escape. She felt a grin
come over her, thinking about the mischief she just pulled. Maybe
this "demon" thing wouldn't be so bad after all.
++++
Far away from Dana or Astara, there were other spirits taking notice
as well. Different mortal religions called them different things.
Sometimes "nature gods" or "great spirits" or even "angels". Whatever
they case, they guarded natural balance and promoted growth. And as
Astara began twisting mortals into more demons, it caused them to
stir.
"This world... is it meant to become part of her Demon World?"
"No... but we cannot act yet. Let's watch for now, there was just an
unexpected development now."
"Demons are necessary in the Balance too. But an entire world at
once? What is that Princess even thinking?"
"Astara is twisting these humans. Cursing them. Crushing their
futures, their dreams. If she had some restraint or even design to
this it'd be different... If any potential is being met, I assure you
it's incidental to her scheme!"
