Anna had a fun day planned for the two. First, she took her brother back into the woods, where they walked around a little bit, exploring the area behind their house. It was a large area, about 6 acres or so, so they had more than enough room to walk around. They even played Hide and Seek for a little while.
Next, Anna decided to bring a few of her friends from school over, both male and female, and all of them walked into town, going into all of the little shops that were set up along the main road in their town.
They all rode their bikes, with Ken's looking more like a bike used by first graders. It made Ken feel incredibly small and insecure; still, he grinned and bared the trip, trying to stay on Anna's good side for the rest of the day.
A few hours later, everyone rode back together, departing one by one as they approached their respective houses. Before long, it was just Ken and Anna.
"So, what are we going to do now?" he asked her, pedaling as fast as he could to keep up.
"Oh, somewhere fun, I hope," she replied. "Are you having a good time so far?"
"You know what? I am. I didn't think I'd have fun hanging out with your friends, but I did."
"Well, we still have a few hours left until sundown," Anna said. "Come on." The two continued down the road, until they reached one of Anna's friend's house.
It was Elizabeth, someone Ken couldn't stand to be around for long periods of time. He didn't know why she bothered him so much; she just did. On the plus side, she had a few brothers he kind of liked. They parked their bikes and walked inside.
Elizabeth greeted them as they walked into the living room.
"Hello, Anna," she said as the two hugged.
"Oh, and is this little Ken?" Elizabeth said, as she bent down to get a closer look at the ten year old. "You hanging out with your older sis today, Kenny?" she playfully tousled his hair, her wide smile grinning down at him.
THAT was the reason he didn't like her: that damn smile. It was ridiculously wide, her white teeth showing. Plus, she seemed to do it all the time, which ticked him off even more. Still, Ken bit his tongue, determined to make to the end of the day without upsetting Anna.
"Let's go upstairs and talk," Elizabeth said, leading Anna away. "I have something I want to show you." As the two reached the stairs, Elizabeth turned back to Ken. "Oh, Ben and Sam are upstairs in their rooms, if you want to play with them, little guy."
Ken waited until they were inside Elizabeth's room before making his way towards the stairs. He walked up slowly, dreading the encounter with Elizabeth's brothers.
