You get back up and look at the cape. It is beautifully made, with a high collar and red silk lining. It is easy to find the hanger it came off of - the rest of the costume is an old-fashioned black tuxedo, complete with expensive-looking gold cufflinks and really old-fashioned looking black boots. A magician's outfit? You don't see a top hat, but maybe that is somewhere else.
The costume looks a bit small, but you like it. Maybe the girl can adjust it. You go back to the men's changing room and put it on. The pants have buttons instead of a zipper, and the shirt has small, separate buttons that work like cufflinks. Yo are surprised to find that everything does fit perfectly. You look at yourself in the mirror and frown. Somehow, you look more like an undertaker than a magician. Ah! You forgot the cape!
You pull it over your shoulders and strike a dramatic pose. That's more like it! Then you jumo as something like an electrical shock passes through you. Looking around, you can't find a cause, but the jolt left you feeling a little cold and numb. Bewildered, you look back in the mirror and gasp. You aren't there.
It's got to be a trick! You can see yourself with no problem, and your old clothes are visible in the reflection - hanging on the wall behind you. Then you take a second look at your hands. They look paler, almost white. And your fingrnails are thicker and longer, looking almost like claws. A faint suspicion beginsd to form in your mind, even though you know it is impossible. Then growing hunger completes the picture.
You want to scream, to run away. But you can't go out of the store just yet. The sun is out, and you realize that you have just become a vampire!
