The shopkeeper handed over a large box of malts to Ian, who looked the box over and up at him quizzically. Who rang him up as he explained. "They're novelty malts. Add various flavors and effects to drinks. Great with beer too. Just add one or more packets to a pitcher and enjoy."
"What kind of effects?" Ian looked teh box over, but it was just a simple wooden crate with a stamped "MALT" on the top.
"Oh just some color, extra fizz, dye your tongue, ectera ectera. that'll be twenty dollars please."
Ian paid, after all twenty bucks for a box of malts wasn't bad, but he still felt uneasy about it. Especially with that grin on the shopkeepers face as he left the store.
Several hours later Ian was pouring the cheap beer into the pitchers his frat had 'aquired'. He left the majority in the cans but figured he bought the malts, might as well use them. Some of them made the beer avariety of colors, others made it fizz strangly, and one he swore he saw something swirl about in the amber liquid for a second. Something in the belly of his gut wanted him to throw the whole lot down the drain, but that would be a huge waste of money and might get him kicked out of the frat. So he just called one of his bros in to help him carry the trays out into the living room where the party was in full gear. Rockband and Smash Bros. were already being played and others were talking about various things. Over by the door one of the guys was getting a lecture for trying to sneak his girlfriend into the party.
