Jen spent the rest of first period smiling broadly and happily doing her work. She had vague thoughts about how to get back at Kyle, but what was more on her mind was Emma's visible discomfort at the cold room. She wished she could do something to help her out.
But then she remembered a rule about the town curse. She realized that by using it on her, Kyle had given her control over it. Her grin somewhow managed to widen more as she looked over at Emma. It was a cold day to begin with, and in this air-conditioned room she looked freezing in her skimpy shirt and shorts. Jen knew just what to do.
As class ended, Jen leaned to her and said "I'm goi-i-ing to a-a-ask you so-o-omething stra-a-ange. Just humor me-e-e, oka-a-ay?"
Emma glanced up at the sheep girl as she was zipping up her backpack. "Okay, sure."
"If yo-o-ou kne-e-ew someone wi-i-ith the town cu-u-urse, would yo-o-ou wa-a-ant them to sha-a-are it wi-i-ith yo-o-ou?"
"Share it? Why? It's a curse."
"It ca-a-an be mo-o-ore," Jen smiled. "Tru-u-ust me-e-e."
Emma's eyes widened. "Have YOU been cursed, Jen?"
Jen nodded, though her expression was not that of dismay, but excitement.
Emma shot up out of her chair and started walking toward the door. Jen followed.
"Wa-a-ait," she bleated.
"I don't want anything to do with that curse," Emma said. "It's dangerous. You should be lucky it hasn't done anything horrible to you."
"But Emma-a-a, yo-o-ou're the o-o-one who ma-a-ade it mo-o-ore tha-a-an a cu-u-urse."
"What?"
Jen explained, as quickly as she could manage in her sheepish voice, that Kyle cursed her to obey every command, strip naked, and to always tell the truth. Then she told Emma about her order to make Jen love being a sheep girl.
"You mean you weren't always...and you hated it, and I...?" It was a lot for Emma to take in. "Oh Jen, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to change you like that!"
"Don't be so-o-orry. I ju-u-ust wa-a-ant to sha-a-are this wi-i-ith yo-o-ou. Don't yo-o-ou wa-a-ant tha-a-at?"
