Waterbirth

added 13 years ago O

There's no way you'll return to that hospital. During the contraction you lean forward and support yourself on the side of the bathtub with your arms, as standing upright becomes really uncomfortable. Looking into the bathtub, you remember having heard that many women find giving birth easier in the water. You start to fill the tub with warm water, and when it's almost full you carefully climb in. Just when you're standing there with one foot in the tub and one outside, the next contraction hits in full force. You press your teeth together to prevent yourself from crying and suddenly your waters break. A stream of amniotic fluid gushes down your left leg and into the tub. After the contraction you fully get into the tub and try to find a comfortable position. The warm water actually has a calming, relaxing effect on you, and the next few contractions don't feel as painful as before. However, they last longer now and there's less time in between them. You know that you mustn't let yourself be discovered, so you force yourself not to scream out in pain, panting and moaning silently instead.
As contractions keep on coming and going for hours, you get more and more desperate. Just when you consider simply allowing yourself to scream and be discovered so somebody somehow puts you out of your misery, you feel an urge to push. When you start to do so, you notice the baby moving through your birth canal for the first time. You carefully move your hand under the water to your vagina, and you can feel hair inside that isn't your own: the head is crowning, soon your baby's going to be out completely. After pushing along with two more powerful contractions, you clearly feel baby's head sticking out between your legs. The next contraction's coming, more painful then ever. You moan and push, and the baby's entire body slides out of you. Overwhelmed with shear joy that the nightmare of birth is now over, you lean forward to take a first look at what you've just born.
