You look down and see the upper body of a young woman and the front section of a horse where your hips and legs should be. You quickly look behind you and see the back half of the horse there as well.
"Well?", asks the clerk. You look to him and say, "I'm Sophia Jakk, and I can't remember why I am here," in a beautiful and very feminine voice. "Can't or won't," says the clerk as he comes closer. The horse ears on the top of your head twitch, "Can't," you say, "I can't remember a thing except my name."
The clerk looks at your brown furred lower body and up at your tanned upper body with generous breasts, up to your beautiful face with lovely blue eyes framed with lovely brown curly hair and a pair of horse ears swiveling on top of that.
"Bend down here," he says. You comply from your 7' tall height. He looks into your eyes and says, "You are definitely one of ours, come over here and well see what is going on." He walks over to a computer tucked into a cubbyhole you had not seen from where you were standing, you follow. He gives you a hand-held device that has a flat side on the front and a cord going back to the computer on the other. He says, "Put that at the base of your skull, it will center itself." You comply. When you get it close enough, it is like two magnets attracting and it centers the device over the brain stem at the back of your head.
After a few beeps and clicks he says, "Ah, I see the problem. You must of gotten it from off the floor, it is so new it hasn't been programmed yet. And no backup of your old memories I'll have to give you new ones, job skills and all. Give me a moment and I'll get you on your way, ma'am." A few more clicks and he says,"OK, I gave you the standard female centaur memories package, the job skills of a electrical/robotics engineer, and I even set you up with a roommate, one of our other lifers just got an opening. I think you will like her, her name is Vicky and she is a Vixen.
He hits one last button and all those memories come flooding in and reality bends slightly. You gain memories of childhood, of puberty, of high school, of prom, of friends and boyfriends, of meeting Vicky at work and after work, of her needing a roommate last year and you moving in with her. You even remember having problems with the implants you use for work. Which is why you are up, at the crack of dawn, in this repair shop getting them fixed.
"That should do it Miss Jakk," says the female Naga technician. "Thanks for fitting me in Lucy, that occilation in the motor controls shunt was getting bad, you are the best," you say. "No problem," she says, "If it comes back just stop on by. If it does we'll have to change out that entire chip, which is expensive and requires surgery, though those setting changes should last you a while."
"OK, have a nice day" you tell her as you hand her back the programming probe and grab your coat and purse. You go out to the parking lot and get into the cargo van you converted for your use. Adding a heavily padded roll out tray for your horse body, hand operated brake and accelerator levers, and conversion into a plug-in electric vehicle by way of an electric motor and a bank of large storage capacitors in place of heavy and expensive batteries of years past.
As you drive home you wonder how Vicky's Halloween party went last night. You figure she might be awake enough by the time you get home to ask.
