Luke and Max arrived just in time for their first period. Before
heading into class, Max did a quick gaze around the school parking
lot, but he didn't see Mark or his car. He wondered where he was,
completely forgetting that he left Mark joined with Zack. Max gave up
looking, and followed Luke to their first period.
"Hey Max," Luke whispered. "Where's your brother?"
"I don't know." Max whispered back. "I wonder if he is playing hooky
today." Luke gave Max a funny look, not believing him.
Every once in awhile, Mark or Max would play hooky. So being like good
twins, they would impersonate each other. No one, ever found out; not
even Luke.
Luke whispered back, "Mark has never missed a class before, why would
he now?"
"Well actually..." Max began, but the teacher made a loud noise
similar to clearing his throat.
"MAX! LUKE! Do you have something you want to tell the whole class?"
the teacher yelled.
"No Mrs. Fisher." They replied.
The teacher glared at them for a fer moments, but then continued her
lecture.
Max quickly whispered, "I'll tell you after class."
After class, Max stopped over at his locker, and Luke followed. "So
Max," Luke began. "What were you going to say?"
After taking a few books out, Max responded, "I was going to tell you
that Mark has actually missed several classes. In fact, I have missed
several classes. We find that we need a break every once in awhile so
we ditch."
"WHAT!?" Luke exclaimed. "That's impossible! There is always one of
you in my classes, and both of you have always showed up. You two are
the only ones in the entire school that have perfect attendance."
Max smiled, "Actually, we do. You just have never noticed because one
of us will cover for the other."
"No!" Luke laughed. "That's impossible. You guys may be identical
twins, but even the two of you have differences in appearance. Plus, I
have know you guys since...like forever."
Max gawked at him. "You mean that you can ALWAYS tell us apart."
"Well...if you guys aren't close enough, then I can't. But, I am
certain that I could...tell...the...two of you..apart." Luke's mouth
dropped, and his eyes widened. While he was talking, Max began messing
with his hair, and a few other little things. When he was done, he
looked exactly like Mark.
"H-how did you?" Luke stuttered.
"We learned a long time ago how to do this. When we were younger, we
didn't always like others confusing us. So, we decided to change our
looks just enough so that people could tell us apart. We now use this
to our advantage. Why do think there is only one of us in each of your
classes?"
Luke just stared, dumbfounded. "Don't worry, this is really me, Max. I
am the one who has the feelings for you."
Luke was speechless; he continued to gawk. Max smiled. "Come on, Luke.
MARK and you have second period."
