Well, first things first, thought Colin, still smiling. He clicked on 'New Subject', entering his own name. Sure enough, just like in the story, a 3-d picture of him popped up, wearing exactly what he was now; an orange shirt with a small grey Reebok logo on the front and cream cargo pants. (So he wasn't very fashion-minded, does it matter?)
Clicking on 'Surroundings', Colin began to tweak his situation.
Ten minutes later, he was sitting in his basement apartment. What had formerly been his room on the ground floor was now the entrance to an entire set of basement apartments. It even had a secret entrance. Not that he needed it anymore, but he was always the one for a little cloak-and-dagger. His family would now take no notice of any changes, assuming that however he (or they) looked was exactly how they had always been. He had an unlimited bank account, and computer that wouldn't be invented for a twenty years, with touch screen, perfect voice recognition, ten times the processing power of Deep Blue, and higher security than that place in Mission: Impossible. Colin wasn't going to fall into the same trap as the James in the story had by letting The Maker fall into the wrong hands.
Colin smiled. Now that everything was ready, he was going to have a LOT of fun with this thing. Entering into his own profile, he began to alter himself...
