I looked at Sidney and tentatively answered the cell phone. "Sup?"
"Kelly? That's you, right? This is Paul. I'm so glad they didn't catch you!"
"Ummm, what?"
"You don't know, do you? A few minutes after you left, the cops came down on us. We're all in the county lockup. Kelly, you got to help us!"
I didn't know what to say to this boy on the phone. He knew about Kelly and what she was up to though, and I wanted that information.
"Ummm, why would they like, put you in jail?"
"Why? Shit, you are an airhead, aren't you? They found out about the E."
"The E?"
"The Ecstasy. Damn, you didn't take that much last night, did you?"
"Crap on a stick! I'm a loadie?!"
"What the hell is a loadie? Speak English! Whatever, doesn't matter. You and your damn valspeak. So can you help us or not?"
My mind was blank, then a thought came to me that asking about parents might tell me more about who Kelly was. "Ummm, can I call my parents?"
"Call your parents?! You should know better than anyone you can't do that! You ran away from them and stole some money on the way out! What's your problem?"
"Ummm, I don't feel like myself today, you know?"
"No I don't know. You probably don't have enough to bail us out anyway. Dumb slut, you were always only good for one thing. I knew it was a mistake to call you."
Just then he hung up the phone.
Sidney said, "I heard most of that from over here. Looks like Kelly has some class-act friends."
