After getting themselves off the floor, Dave and Kyle sat down on the
couch. Damion sat on the chair next to them, shaking with anticipation
for the story. Kyle and Dave switched off every now and then as they
re-told their story for Damion.
Damion was quite during the whole thing, and when they ended, he
exploded with questions."So, do you guys enjoy being stuck together?
Are you sure its permanent? Do you think I could still try it with a
friend? Are you my half brothers now? Or is Dave my half brother and
Kyle is just half Dave's friend?"
Dave and Kyle were overloaded from the questions. They managed to
remember an important one though. Dave yelled, "Did you not hear us?
THIS IS PERMANENT! We can not separate. No matter how much we want to
separate, we are stuck together."
Even though Kyle didn't like being conjoined as much as Dave, it still
hurt when Dave said those things. Kyle added, "Yeah, we would do
anything to have separate bodies again. Who would want to be joined
like this for the rest of their lives?"
Damion gave them a confused look. He had the 'are you crazy look.' "My
friend Steven and I would want to." Damion replied. "We would probably
make better conjoined friends then you two. We pretend we're conjoined
all the time; its a blast."
Dave and Kyle were shocked. "What!?" Dave yelled. "This is not a blast
Damion. This isn't one of you and your friends little fantasies. You
don't know what it is like." Dave fumed. Damion and him were giving
each other death stairs.
Kyle tried to ease the tension. He spoke softly, "Look Damion...being
conjoined is not what you think it is until it actually happens.
Besides, the eagle chain probably won't even work again."
It seemed to have worked. Damion took a deep breathe, and replied "I
get it. Being conjoined is bad."
Suddenly, the phone rang. Kyle looked over from Dave to Damion and
then back to Dave. Neither was making a move for it. "Is someone going
to answer it?"
Without speaking, Damion got up and grabbed the phone. "Hello?...Yeah,
he's here" Damion then handed the phone to Dave. "Its Dad."
Dave put the phone up to his ear and said, "Hey Dad...Really?
...Okay...See you when you get back." Dave hung up the phone. Dave
then said, "My dad won't be back till late. My mom's flight was
postponed a few hours so he is taking mom out for dinner before her
flight."
Kyle gave a half hearted smile. "Well at least we don't have to break
the news to your parents tonight." It went silent for a minute, and
then Kyle said, "Dave, can we go up to your room and take a nap. You
kind of interrupted mine earlier."
Dave replied, "Yeah, yeah...Damion if you need anything, we will be
upstairs. We will order Pizza later." Dave and Kyle then wobbled up
the stairs to Dave's room.
Once they were safely upstairs, Damion grabbed the phone and dialed
his friend's number. "...Hey Steven, you know how we always pretend
we're stuck together...well I think I know how to do it for
real...Yeah, I'm serious...my brother and his friend Kyle are stuck
together...They say its permanent, but you know how Dave lies to
us...Yeah...alright, when you come over we can try it...see you in a
few." Damion then hung the phone with a nice smug look on his face.
