Amidst the creaking of old wood (and potentially other things, overhead) you suddenly hear the distant sound of windchimes and -perhaps- running water! Relief floods your soul as you realize that this means you can probably find your way out! The sounds, while coming from all directions very faintly, seem to be loudest straight ahead.
Deciding that even though the trail looks even more rundown and in disarray ahead of you, it's better than your other options. Steeling yourself, you start heading off down the path towards the sounds of the chimes and water.
The day wears on.
You whistle a bit, now and then, to make yourself feel better, but in the otherwise quiet wood, it starts to sound more than a bit creepy. The sounds of the windchimes, though, are getting louder.
Soon, the canopy of branches overhead breaks apart letting in sunlight. You smile, feeling the warmth of the sky rain down upon your up-lifted face. You hadn't realized it, but your heart had been beating a mile a minute back in there; the closeness of the trees, the silence, the creaking of the branches... All of it had been mind-numbing!
But now, you've found a small clearing through which runs a small stream. While there is no bridge, the path seems to continue on the far side. Oddly, though, is the source of the faint music you've been following.
Hanging from a branch over the stream is a wooden set of wind chimes, blowing softly in the breeze.
