Kelsey Andersen nervously paced through the high grass behind the auto shop at her school. The 18 year old looked at her watch once again. 3:47. Paige was supposed to be here half an hour ago! Where was she?!
The young athletic girl was becoming more anxious by the second. She wasn’t comfortable with Paige’s plan at all, but the pressure coming from her family, the high school, and the college, was overwhelming. Faster, faster, faster! Getting that track scholarship had become the preeminent factor of her young life. Paige had convinced her there was only one way.
Finally, Paige ran around the corner, nearly scaring Kelsey out of her skin.
“Hey, sorry…”
“What the hell took you so long?! You’re driving me crazy! Look, Paige, I don’t know if I want to do this anymore…”
“What?!! No way! This stuff wasn’t cheap! You said you’d pay half!” The blond was usually high strung, and was quickly getting upset. The small, athletic girl was already breathing heavily.
“Calm down, Paige! You knew I wasn’t comfortable with this…”
“You can’t back out now! Besides, this stuff ain’t on coach’s list. There’s no piss test for it. It’s all natural!”
“Yeah, so’s lightening…” Kelsey retorted, folding her arms defensively.
“Look, do you want that scholarship or not? This stuff guaranteed.” Paige held up a small baggie filled with a few dozen grassy green capsules. Kelsey eyed the plastic baggie, considering Paige’s words. She desperately wanted that scholarship, and more importantly, her father’s respect.
“Fine,” Kelsey said, flipping her black hair from her eyes, looking for onlookers. “Here’s your stupid money. This junk had better work, that’s almost all my savings.” The dusky skinned girl said.
“I said it was guaranteed…” Kelsey snorted. Paige glared back at her, miffed that her best friend doubted her.
“Just think how proud your daddy will be once you get that scholarship.” Paige said quietly, knowing it was a sensitive subject for Kelsey. “Look, just take one or two with a big glass of water. Not like that’s hard.”
Kelsey looked at the pills. “Yeah… yeah, I guess it can’t hurt.”
