After doing her best to open the front door silently, Kelsey snuck into her bedroom, hoping not to be caught be her mother. After pouring two pills into her hand, Kelsey stuffed the bag under her mattress. Then, sneaking into the bathroom downed the large, greenish pills.
“Kelsey? That you?” Kelsey jumped when she heard her mother’s thick Filipino accent.
“Ah, yeah… I’m just coming down for a glass of water.” Kelsey said as she dashed down the stairs.
“Hmm, I didn’t hear you come in. Was school good?” Her mother said as she entered the kitchen. Kelsey sighed deeply, she had powerful urge to divulge everything about Paige’s strange drugs, but she held her tongue.
“Um, it was fine. Mrs. Elmer was sick so we had a sub. Nothing too interesting.” Kelsey said as she pulled a glass from the cupboard. As she went to the sink her mother spoke again.
“No running practice today? Mr. Gardener getting soft.” She smiled as she continued chopping carrots.
“No, no practice…” Kelsey said just before she downed the water. As she drank, her gut began to gurgle and rumble. When she placed her hand on her stomach, Kelsey could actually feel it grumble and move. “Uh… what was that?” She murmured quietly.
“You okay, honey?” Her mom asked.
“Um, yeah, water just didn’t go down right. I’m gonna call Paige, okay?” Kelsey left as her mother nodded. Her still unstable stomach had her worried.
“Hello?” Kelsey heard Paige’s voice.
“Paige? This is Kelsey; did you take that… um, stuff yet?”
“What? Oh, yeah sure, took three of um.”
“Did you… Wait a minute, three? You told me to take two.” Kelsey was surprised.
“Whatever, I figured a little more could hurt.” Paige said.
“Did you stomach, you know, feel a little weird afterwards?”
“My tummy did feel, kinda weird but, you know, it’s just, not used to it or something.” Paige said who not concerned at all.
“Um, yeah…” Kelsey thought about it. “I guess you’re right, just seems… I dunno.”
“Oh… my god!” Paige squealed.
“What? What is it?! What’s wrong?!!”
“Did you see Meagan and Joe today?!” Kelsey growled. So typical of Paige.
