The Ring

added 15 years ago O

Anna kicked her skateboard, making it go faster as she jumped the curb. Her waist long black hair billowed out behind her from under a purple bandana. She was
17-years-old, about 5'7", had an athletic but curvy body and sky blue eyes that showed deep feelings of sadness and depression. She was wearing a small white tank
top that exposed her waist up to three inches above her belly button and had a plunging neckline and she wore a pair of skinny blue jeans, with both knees torn. On
her feet were a pair of battered, but still good sneakers and a pair of ankle socks.

Anna turned around the corner of the street and dodged a car as she hopped back onto the sidewalk, ignoring the honking horn and the drivers angry shouts. She
continued on skating until she finally reached an overpass. A chain link fence surrounded the place under the highway, except for an opening where the fence was
bent back enough to allow a person in, it was here that Anna hopped off her board and ducked through.

The place used to be a construction equipment storage area, when the overpass was being built, but when the job was done the workers left stacks of 2x4's and
plywood. Here and there sat a concrete barricade and a picnic table that the workers at at. A truck that had been vandalized sat with its axles resting on cement
blocks. This spot was Anna's 'Secret Place', where she could skate in peace when she was down. She had used the left over wood and built ramps and even built a
half-pike.

Today, Anna wasn't in the mood to skate.

Anna threw her board down and collapsed onto her knees on the ground. Tears started to fall down her cheeks as she began to sob, remembering all that had
happened at school earlier during the day.

"I c-can't take this anymore! I can't!?" The girl sobbed to herself, "why can't anyone just accept me for who I am?"

She remained sitting in that spot for a few minutes and then got to her feet. Anna walked toward the truck, opened the door and pulled a small box from behind the
seat. She sniffed as she stared at the lid and couldn't back a smile as she read the writing on it.

"Anna's Treasures," she mumbled to herself and lifted the lid.

Inside was all of the objects and things that when she was a little girl, seemed like treasure to her. One such item was a small gold ring that her grandpa had given to
her on her eighth birthday. She smiled as she remembered what he said it was.

"This is a wishing ring, my little Anita, use it only when you need it most," Grandpa had said.

Anna stared at the ring in her hand for a moment and then slipped it on her finger.

"Grandpa said only to use you when I needed you the most, well, I need you now. I wish...I-I wish that every time someone insults me, that they would become my
friends, that's all I want are friends who would enjoy what I do, friends who like to skate. That is what I wish!" as Anna finished the ring on her finger began to glow.
