Jennifer crawled out of bed, dressed and went downstairs. "Mom, I'm up!" she hollared.
"Don't have to yell dear I'm here!" replied Misses Morrison.
"I plan to go and play around at Jarred's farm today. He offered we could take a picnic lunch and ride out to their Springbrook Park." said Jennifer with her nice smile.
"That's all well and fine but there are chores to do first and you must care for that new stallion!" said Mom.
"Oh!" and the bang of the back screen door as Jennifer ran out to see her new prize horse. As she flew into the barn the stallion's head reared up in fright. "Easy big boy, easy!" she said with a pat to his face.
A half pale of mixed grain, a quarter bale of hay in the net, a five gallon pale of water and her stallion was set for his morning. As Big John nibbled at the grain bucket jennifer scooped up the piles about his box stall.
As he munched she brushed his broad roan back with her hand. "Oh dear, I wish Daddy had stayed and could see you! He'd love a fine pure bred American Shetland stallion on his ranch! Yup you are one fine stallion and I expect we will profit well by that big hose!" and with a chuckle she walked out the stable.
"Honey, Jarred's on the phone!" hollared Misses Morrison.
"Hi Jarred what's cooking?" asked Jennifer.
"Oh I wondered if today you might saddle Big John and you ride him to the park. My Dad says you souldn't leave him in that stall to much it will wear down his spirit." suggested Jarred.
It was agreed that Jennifer would ride the stocky stallion that day.
Deep in the animal brain sat the memories of his life and family. Mister Morrison now the stallion stood watching his daughter with pride. She had grown during this many months to a refined young lady. Even as the animal he was his pride for the family went hand in hand with the satisfaction of being at stud.
