Finally, Bryan, or Bobo as he was now called, gave up on tugging on the bars and settled for looking around anxiously. There were all kinds of other creatures in cages-large birds, turtles, terrariums with frightenlingly large snakes, exotic fish glistening in their tanks, and several creatures he didn't immediately recognize. The man that had shoved him into the cage was back at his desk, looking at reciepts. It was then that Bryan realized he was in a pet store, and with that realization came the sickening thought that he was now an animal for sale.
Suddenly a man with a little girl came in, and the girl shot right toward Bryan's cage.
"Oh Daddy!" She cried. "I want the monkey!"
Hold on now sweetie, let's not rush to a decision.
"But I want it Daddy! Oh please, oh please, oh please?"
"Well..."
"Bobo is an excellent pet." The petstore owner chimed in. "He's very gentle and loveable, and quite intelligent."
"But aren't they aggressive?" The father asked.
"Bobo is a special variety of chimpanzee. He'll never grow to the full size of an adult male and he doesn't have the strength of his cousins. Besides, you can always do as we recommend and have him fixed. That will eliminate any aggression."
Bryan's heart leapt when he heard that. He immediately started jumping up and down and shrieking.
"Oh look Daddy, the monkey is happy!" The little girl cried. "He wants to come home with us!"
"That doesn't look like he's happy." The father cautioned.
"It's nothing." The salesman replied, producing something that looked like a dog collar. "You could always fit him with this. It's a shock collar that's designed to look like a regular collar-hides the unpleasantness. Just as a precaution of course. Shouldn't need it."
"And what about the mess?" The father asked.
"Keep him in the diapers." The petstore owner shrugged.
"Oh yes Daddy!" The little girl cried. "It will be just like having a baby doll!"
The father sighed. "Well, okay sweetie, if this is what you want."
Bryan was too stunned to react when the salesman opened the cage and fitted him with the collar.
"There, it even has his name on it-Bobo." He said.
"Bobo!" The little girl cheered. "That's cute!"
With that he handed "Bobo" to the little girl and fitted the collar with a leash.
"I'll set you up with diapers, food, toys, a cage, and anything else you might want." The petstore owner said. "All at a special discout price."
