Safe in the privacy of the stall, you peer at yourself in the small mirror. You can't understand how your hair could have changed like this. It's noticeably longer in the front, particularly at the sides of your face. Long hair falls where you would normally have sideburns, growing three to four inches down to your chin. The hair even covers part of your ears, but gets shorter toward the back of your head. Your forehead is adorned with a thick set of bangs that cover your eyebrows like a curtain. The back of your head doesn't seem much different. You think maybe the hair is somewhat thicker, but it doesn't look longer. It's certainly not as long as the locks that frame your face.
You try to come up with an explanation for why you suddenly have a haircut fit for a tomboyish girl. Your concentration breaks when you suddenly realize how long you've been gone. Rushing out of the stall, you head back to math class. You inexplicably stumble a couple of times on your way. Your body doesn't seem to be as coordinated.
The teacher doesn't look in your direction or even pause his lecture, making no sign to acknowledge your return. You're surprised neither he nor anybody else in the room is giving you funny looks. Surely some of them glanced at you as you came in and saw your strange hair.
You try to remain inconspicuous for the rest of the class, which is surprisingly easier than you expected. You sit through the lecture, watching the other students discretely to see if any of them notice what's happened to you. Meanwhile, you continue to feel strange. Something about your body feels off. Your hair tickles your ears and eyelids annoyingly, distracting you from the source of the weird feeling.
When the period bell rings, you quickly gather your books and shuffle out of the room with the rest of the crowd. You can't stop worrying about what's happening to you. You've only got a few minutes until your next class, but you wonder if you should forget about it and get to the bottom of what's going on.
