Thomas walked up his driveway, and as he reached his door, he found something strange. A package, addressed to him, was lying on the welcome mat. He picked it up, curious, then placed it under his arm and opened the door. He walked upstairs to his room and threw his backpack onto his bed. Not wanting to be disturbed in case the package contained something questionable, he closed his door to keep his parents out.
It wasn't as if he was expecting it to be something dishonest, but he wasn't exactly one of those people who got along with everyone. He had some rather unscrupulous enemies at his high school, and it wasn't entirely unlikely that they had sent him drugs to get him in trouble.
He opened the package and saw that it contained what appeared to be a computer program called "Chronivac". He opened the box and saw a disc, an instruction manual, and a remote. He hesitated for a moment, not sure if this was some sort of trick, but then decided that if it was a computer virus, he wouldn't lose anything important on his admittedly out of date computer.
He took the disc and slid it into his computer. A box popped up asking if he wanted to install new software, and he clicked yes. Almost instantly, another box popped up saying "Welcome to Chronivac 4.0, the program for reprogramming the universe." He wasn't entirely sure what this meant, But then a menu popped up, with several options including "Age", "Body", "Animal", "Other", and "Custom". Thomas was getting more and more confused, so he decided to read the instruction manual. Apparently, this program could alter the physical and mental properties of anything on the planet. The remote was like a portable version, and there was even an option for downloading it into an organism. He looked on the menu and saw a "Genetic upload" option, which he clicked. Almost instantly, a bright flash of light blinded him for a moment.
When Thomas could see again, another message popped up. "To activate organic component, think or say 'Activate Chronivac'". He did so, and a menu identical to the one on his screen appeared in front of him. "This is too cool," He said "I wonder what I should do first..."
