As you hover above the clothes, a feeling of unease comes over you. By this point, you're not even sure what it is that you're having trouble remembering, but somehow you feel that it must be important. After all, you wouldn't still be trying to remember it if it wasn't, right? Puzzled and worried, you gently drift down and land on top of the clothes, hoping that you can concentrate a little better on the ground.
You sit down and get comfortable, stretching your wings and arms, adjusting your top, and then brushing your long golden hair out of your face. You breathe in deeply, then frown. This shirt that you're sitting on smells like a human male's. Nothing unusual about that, but for some reason this particular smell gives you a feeling of familiarity. Did you know this human? You can't recall. You shake your head; whatever it is you're trying to remember, it's certainly confusing.
As you look around, you notice that the shirt has a rather large hole in it, near the collar. Looking closer, it seems like it was torn out on purpose rather than having frayed away; the edges are much too clean, and there's no loose strands. Who would have done that, and why? You look down at your own clothing, wondering who would tear a chunk out of a perfectly good garment like that. Your tunic isn't the finest piece of clothing ever made, but it's good enough; it covers you well, the sash is tight without being constricting, and the material...
The material looks familiar. In fact, it triggers the same sort of feeling the scent on the shirt did, the feeling that this is somehow related to what you were trying to remember. You look at your tunic, and you look at the shirt, and then it strikes you: they're the same cloth! In fact, the somewhat ragged edges of your tunic match the hole in the shirt perfectly!
Now you're really confused. Your tunic was torn from the human's shirt? Now that you think about it, you can remember doing just that. You were...you were naked and embarassed, but why? There wasn't anybody else around. And why were you naked to begin with? Had someone taken your clothes? No, that's not it. You remember waking up, but why would you have been sleeping naked? Where were you sleeping?
You were sleeping in the collar of the human's shirt, weren't you? But why? You remember a feeling of panic just after you woke up, a feeling of disbelief; what was it that you'd discovered? Was it something about the human? Wondering where he had gone? No, that wasn't it; somehow you feel...that he never left? Where was he, then? Were his disappearance and your panic attack related? What did the two of you have in...?
Suddenly the light of realization breaks in on your clouded mind. You remember. You remember!...not all that much, actually. You remember that you were originally the human male whose shirt this was, and that you became a fairy while sleeping in the fairy-ring in which you now sit. But...what were you like as a human guy? Who were you? What was your name? You can't remember, not even after fifteen minutes of trying.
Even more worrying is the thought that you had almost completely forgotten the whole thing! You remember now that you were human, but half an hour ago you had no idea! What if you forgot again? What if you forgot even that you forgot? The thought of losing your identity completely is terrifying, even though you can't actually think of anything that was unpleasant about thinking of yourself as normally a fairy. You realize that you need to find some way to change back, before you forget yourself completely; or at the very least, you need to find some way to prevent yourself from forgetting. But how?
