“Yes, he wants us to become a big happy family” Joanne hands Nancy a cup of tea. Nancy accepts it but she doesn’t drink from it, she just holds it in her hands. Riley holds his arm around her shoulders and look at her. She hears the thumping of Riley’s tail hitting the couch. Nancy look first at her best friend and then at her new love. She looks down into the cup of tea as if she expected to get some kind of answer from it. “A family?” Nancy asks and slowly raises her head again to meet their eyes.
“Yes, a family” Joanne, confirms. “A happy family” Joanne holds Nancy’s hands and squats down in front of her. “At first we will start off small with maybe 4-8. But I hope we will have several more” Nancy looks at Joanne in confusion. “4-8? Isn’t that an awful lot of children?” Riley leans forward a bit against Nancy. “Well that’s just about one litter each” Nancy turns her head and look at Riley in chock. “Litters!?”
“You don’t want to have puppies, Nancy?” Joanne asks with a calm voice. Nancy gets up and looks at her friend in chock. Her cup of tea is dropped to the floor and the rug is stained by hot tea. “Puppies!?” Nancy blurts. She puts her hand to her face and almost cries. There’s many instincts and thoughts fighting each other at this very moment. “But I’m not a… I’m not a….” She repeats trying to convince herself that she’s unable to bear puppies, but she’s unable to finish the sentence. Once again she’s embraced by two persons (dogs?) who love her very much. She begins to feel security and safety as she senses their smell. The smells of her mate and her sister… ‘Maybe I’m a bitch after all…’ she thinks to herself as she tries to move closer to her two loved one’s.
