It was just a couple of minutes till it was October 31, 2010 on the east coast of the
United States and the darkness was waiting to pounce. It had waited centuries for the
chance to spread itself again and that chance was quickly approaching. It would
transform the inhabitants of the nation's capital first to establish a stronghold and
spread out from there. It emitted a low, evil laugh that would strike fear into the hearts
of mortals. The number of creatures it could create from that one city was high it was
sure. Many of it's inhabitants had the seed of darkness the darkness needed to
transform them into creatures of darkness. Of course they also had the seed of light
like all humans did but the seed of darkness was stronger.
The light would be a problem. As soon as the darkness started spreading the light
would seek to transform those whose seeds of light were stronger. The darkness had
a plan though. It would create an endless night so the light would have a more difficult
time transforming it's champions and it's champions would be weaker without the light
of the sun to give them strength. The darkness didn't see any way it's plan could fail
and laughed again.
Midnight came and the darkness burst upon the city laughing as it transformed the
inhabitants. As it did so it cast the spell to shroud the east coast in eternal night. It
created werewolves, witches, goblins, headless horsemen, zombies, vampires, and
any other creature it could think of to create fear in those it couldn't directly transform.
Meanwhile the light sensed the darkness starting to spread. The only good thing is
even though the darkness could shroud the east coast in eternal night it was slow
transforming people so it would take some time for the inhabitants of the east coast to
be transformed. The problem the light had now was how to transform it's champions.
With it being night it would need an hour to prepare to transform a few champions.
Also the light knew that there were not many who had a strong seed of light within
them. The light knew that most of the population wouldn't be transformed directly by
either it or the darkness.
As the darkness transformed more people beyond the nation's capital the light
prepared itself and chose those it would transform. It would take precise timing to
transform it's champions before the darkness could cast it's eternal night spell on the
next section.
Midnight came to the central time zone and the light sent the transformation wave to
it's chosen champions. The darkness was fast though and some of the transformations
were interrupted causing some weird side effects. Those that did complete the
transformation became elves, fairies, nature spirits, and others that would fight against
the darkness. Those that had their transformation interrupted became mermaids,
centaurs, white witches, pixies, ghosts, and others caught between the light and dark.
This happened two more times in the mountain and pacific time zones leaving the
continental United States shrouded in endless night.
Who is transformed and for which side?
(AN: For those adding branches to this story the darkness and the light don't transform
people into inanimate objects. That's not to say those that were transformed into
something with magic power can't transform people into inanimate objects. People can
die gruesome deaths in this story and be resurrected if they're found. I do encourage
you to intertwine some of the branches at least a bit. If you do please make sure to
read the relevant branches to keep things in-character. If you do intertwine branches
please put the chapter you're intertwining with at the top so others know
the story and go back for a backstory on the other characters. For this I would say
make an author's note and say something like "This branch is intertwined with..." and
then the url of the chapter or chapters. Have fun with this story. Let's see if we can
make a good story by Halloween.)
