Daniel walked into his flat exhausted. Why had he move into a 9th story flat?!
Daniel was very, very average. Average height, average looks, average build. And he was bored of it.
He sat down in his comfy chair and turned the TV on. Within moments he fell asleep. And that was the best part of his day. Seriously.
He awoke about 3 in the morning, straining his neck and hearing it click he looked around his mostly dark flat. Mostly, except for the odd glow coming from the lamp he'd bought at a recent bazaar in town.
Staggering to his feet he picked the lamp up and examined it. It was glowing, faintly. He rubbed it slightly to see if it was the lamp or something on it and in an instant smoke had filled his view.
He coughed, dropping the lamp with a thud.
"Careful!"
"Sorry..." Daniel waved his hand and from behind the smoke he began to see a face appear.
"It's OK master. Just remember that's my home." The small face smiled.
"Are you?" Daniel sputtered not sure if this was a dream.
"Uh huh" The genie nodded.
"Erm... cool?" Daniel ventured carefully.
"Cool? Ah you mean good. Language changes so rapidly it's hard to keep up. So... shall we begin. I assume you know the rules?"
"Rules? You mean three wishes?"
"That's it. So wish one?"
"Hang on... I mean I need to think! This is so strange..." Daniel sat back in his chair. What could he possibly wish for? Something so good he'd use it forever. He'd often fantasied about this but now it was happenning.
He leant forward, the genie keen to grant his first wish.
"OK... I mean I've wished to myself plenty... more than most probably... but I love computers... and well I want a program that can change reality... it's a wish I've thought about many times... can you do that?"
The genie laughed and nodded. "Of course. Just wish it and it's yours."
"OK." Daniel drew in a breath. This was happenning. "I wish that I had a piece of software on my computer that could provide me with any information I wanted and alter reality based on what I tell it I want to do."
"Granted." And with that the genie vanished again. A soft voice called out. "Just give my lamp a rub when you're ready for wish number two!"
Daniel sat there confused and flabbergasted. Did that just happen?
