Amy wiped the last tear away from her eye and opened the restroom door. Lina's concerned face greeted her.
"Are you all right?" she asked.
"No, I'm not," Amy said truthfully. She couldn't lie to a friend like Lina even if she wanted to. "I don't know why I drank all that hot coffee so fast. Look at this shirt! I'll have to hand-wash it. I'm such a klutz."
"Yeah, you are," Lina said coldly. "We can't have you spilling drinks all over the place. My parents would have a fit."
Amy took a step backward. "What? Your parents?"
"What do we pay you for? Come on, Amy." Lina grabbed Amy's arm and dragged the confused girl to the door. Amy caught some of the confused and worried looks from the cafe workers and customers as they left. For reasons Amy couldn't fathom, she felt a serious regret at not being able to clean up the coffee spill she had made at their table.
The minute they were back on the street, Lina let go of Amy's arm. Her face changed from its unusual coldness to a more familiar, pleasant expression. "So, where are we heading now?"
"You're asking?" Amy said, worried.
"Yeah, I don't have any more plans for the afternoon. You pick."
"You took me out of the cafe so forcefully, I...I assumed you had a plan."
"I what? I did?" Lina looked at Amy and then through the window of the cafe, where she could see some of the customers still stealing glances at them. "I'm sorry, Amy, I didn't realize. Do you want to go back in?"
Amy opened her mouth to say yes, but stopped when she realized she was actually afraid of going back in there and being surrounded by all the people that witnessed their embarrassing incident. The only reason she wanted to go back was, strange as it seemed, to clean up her spill. She looked behind her though the window and felt relieved to see one of the workers cleaning it up herself.
"No, let's go somewhere else," Amy said.
"Where?"
"Uh, wherever. Wherever you want to go."
"All right then," Lina said. She picked a direction and the pair continued on.
