Emily's eyes went wide as she heard what Cara said. Things had just gotten a lot more complicated, and she wasn't sure what this meant about her purchase. Trying to hide her nervousness, Emily walked into the room.
Hearing Cara say it was one thing, but seeing the stubbly growth on her roommate's legs was quite another. It was all Emily could do not to gawk.
"Well... uh... it's the weekend. Maybe you just forgot?"
"I guess that makes sense. Still, ick! I guess dinner's going to have to wait!"
"Oh come on, Cara. Just throw some jeans on, and nobody will be the wiser!"
Cara paused to ponder this for what seemed like an eternity to Emily. It certainly didn't help her nerves any.
"Eh, you're probably right. I'll be right out."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief and ducked into her own room. Things were all happening so fast! After a moment's internal debate, she opened the drawer again and pulled out the bag. Cara had gotten like this just by touching it with her hands, right? Well, Emily wasn't going to let her roommate have the only benefit of her purchase, not if there was a chance the flower might still work for her. She pulled out the blossom and gently rubbed its soft petals on her cheek before tucking it away in the bag and drawer again.
