The Magic Shop

You can call me anything you like...

The face that answered the door wasn't the one Emily had been hoping to see. Veronica had a similar style and taste to Leigh, which certainly helped them get along. Emily's other neighbor from across the hall had quite a few piercings herself, and long purple bangs with the rest of her hair shaved on the sides. The redhead couldn't help her curiosity and gave what she hoped was a less than obvious sniff, but didn't smell anything like what she had on Leigh the previous night. If Veronica minded or even noticed, she gave no sign.

"Uh... hey there, Emily. What's up?"

"Er... hi. I was just wondering if Leigh was in."

"Not right now. She gets kind of restless sometimes, you know? Hard to keep that girl still."

Emily laughed nervously. "It's the hair. I swear she carries an electric charge."

"Something like that. Speaking of hair, are you doing something different with yours?"

"Uhm... maybe a little. Does it look bad?"

"No, no, kind of like how Leigh wears hers. Not a bad look on you."

"Well thanks. Just kind of testing the waters I guess."

"I hear you. Keeps things fresh."

"So ah... do you and Leigh have any plans for tomorrow night?" Emily asked. It was a risky question. She wasn't sure how much Veronica knew.

"Not together, at least. I think she's heading to a friend's that night."

Emily resisted the urge to ask just which friend.

"Well, when she gets in, let her know I was looking for her, huh?"

"Sure thing. Take it easy, eh?"

"You bet."

Emily let out a breath as the door clicked shut before heading back for her apartment. She leaned against the wall after going back in, her mind still racing. Had Leigh managed to keep being a werewolf a secret from her roommate? If she was that good, she'd probably been one for awhile. Still, the prospect of Leigh being away on Sunday night meant that she might not be able to get any tips before both she and Cara changed. Still, she was bound to be back tonight, right? The more she thought about it the more she really wanted to see Leigh again, preferably in private. There was so much more she wanted to talk to the girl about, now that she knew they had something in common. She remembered the touch of Leigh's hand on her cheek, her arm, and blushed at the phantom sensation the memory brought back.

And then, her ears perked as she heard the sound of the stairwell door opening, followed by footsteps coming down the hall...
