Leigh groaned. "Nice, Emily. Well it's going to be dark here, like, really soon in case you haven't noticed." Motioning to the open window filling the room with the orange light of the waning, late-afternoon sun.
"I know but..."
"I know, I know, she said she be home before then. But what if she isn't? We can't have her transforming for the first time in front of people when she doesn't even know what's happening to herself! Or while she's driving!"
"Ugh, I'm so sorry, Leigh. I have no idea what I'm doing. I can't even think straight lately." Emily began staring at her slightly clawed toes in sheepish embarrassment at being scolded by her new friend, er, girl friend? Emily still wasn't sure what the heck was going on there, but now certainly wasn't the time to sort out that issue. "What should we do?" she looked up hopefully.
"Uh..." Leigh closed her eyes trying to think. "Did she say where she was going? Can you call her cell phone?"
"She went to the library. Well, no, she always turns her phone off when she goes there..."
"Try anyway."
"Ok." Emily quickly grabbed the phone and dialed Cara's number. Her call was automatically forwarded to a voicemail messaging system. "Damn. It's still off, which means she's probably still there."
"Damn." Leigh reiterated. "Ok we gotta go get her right now. There's no telling when a first-time werewolf will begin to start changing her first full moon after the sun goes down."
Emily rushed to her room and threw on the first things she could find, tearing the sweat pants and shirt a bit in her haste due to her sharp nails.
"Ok, I'm ready!" Emily shouted as she yanked her keys off the kitchen counter and rushed to meet Leigh who already had the apartment door open.
As they made their way to the carport outside, they could see that the sun was very nearly close to setting. If they weren't hurrying before, they sure were now. Once sealed in the car, between the two of them, the scent of canine was almost overpowering. Cara had to be noticing it on herself by now, Emily thought. Poor Cara, what had she done to her friend? Thankfully it was only a short five minutes to the library. They just might pull this off.
