Emily pulled into the library parking lot. It was a tricky balance for them to tread. They had to be fast to get Cara out of there in time, but they also had to draw as little attention as possible, as getting noticed too much would likely delay them. Thus it was that the girls tried to walk as nonchalantly as possible into the building.
"Did she tell you what floor she'd be on?" Leigh asked.
"Crap, I can't remember!"
"Then you know how we're going to do this, right?"
"I don't know what you... oh geez, seriously?"
"Unless you can think of a better way!"
"No, no, you're right. That's just going to be hard to hide."
"Not if you do it right. Follow my lead."
Leigh's nostrils flared, and she cast her head about casually to take a few short sniffs. Emily tried to do similarly, but she didn't catch much of anything. The punk girl had obviously had a bit more experience with this, as she soon pointed a long-nailed finger towards the nearest stairwell. Emily nodded, and they both quietly hurried in. Leigh climbed to the next landing and gave a few more sniffs, shook her head, and continued climbing. Emily followed as best as she could, but she was beginning to feel a bit unsteady, her balance just slightly off, and occasional tightening in her muscles causing her to stumble here and there. At the next landing Leigh sniffed again, finally nodded, and pointed to the door leading to the third floor proper.
"When we find her, we're going to need to be ready to move. You up to it?"
"Ready as I'll ever be. It feels... close, though."
"That's because it is. The change could start any minute now for you two."
Emily swallowed hard before nodding, heading out onto the third floor. By this point she was sniffing as well, and unlike before she could definitely catch a whiff of the canine scent of her roommate now. The smell focused her, and Leigh gave a proud grin as she saw the redhead start off in the direction she knew Cara was.
However, Emily wasn't quite prepared for just the circumstances she found her roommate in. The scent led to the door of the ladies' room on the third floor...
...and both Leigh and Emily's sensitive ears could hear the sound of Cara crying inside.
