"Eh, I feel really tired," Lindsey said. In my mind I could hear my voice laughing hysterically. That brought a smile to my face.
"Let's just play one of our normal get-together games," Erika suggested.
"OK, but which one?" Mia asked. "There's so many to choose from."
Erika grinned. "This is my party, so I'll pick. I've had a pretty rotten week at school, so let's do the Making Fun of People at School game."
All of the girls perked up at the sound of this game. I wondered exactly what they were capable of doing in this game.
"Alright, I'll pick the first topic," Erika said. "Most Pathetic Guy in Our Grade. Lindsey, you start."
"OK," Lindsey said. She thought for a minute. "Mmmm, I'll go with Brad Bockman." My ears sprang to attention at the sound of my best friend's name.
"Why is that?" Claire asked.
"Well, let's see," Lindsey said. "He's got a nice big house, with his own live-in maid, but he's such a momma's boy. I've never seen him do anything daring, and he has the worst friends."
Now I was starting to get angry. It didn't take long for that feeling to boil over.
"I'm going to agree with Lindsey," Trisha said. "That maid of his is pretty good-looking. But he's probably never even dared to try anything with her. So he's probably a fag."
"Well," Katie said. "You mentioned his friends, Lins. I'll pick his friend Paul Delmont." Paul, like Brad was another friend of mine. "All he does is sit in front of a computer. He probably can't even figure out how to use his own dick." They all laughed at that while I started to clench my teeth.
Mia, still laughing, muttered, "I'll have to go with Katie's choice for all the reasons she mentioned."
Claire was about to speak up but Erika beat her to the punch. "Well if you're going to pick someone from that little group I'll go with Joe Winslow." If my face was visible, I'm sure it would have been redder than Hell. I so wanted to just walk over to her and slap the shit out of her. "He's just so...I don't know how to describe it, but just so much of a loser. He has pathetic friends, he likes pathetic things, he think he's so funny but isn't, I could go on for awhile."
"Oh, come on, Erika," Claire interrupted. "Joe is not nearly as bad as you're making him out to be." My anger started to fade slightly. Was it possible that I had a supporter? "He's an OK guy." Well that was better than nothing, I thought. "The strike against him is that he's 18 and his mother is only like 35. So what does that say?"
"That his mother was a slut in high school," Erika concluded.
I prayed that Claire wouldn't agree with that statment. "Exactly," she said. Now my rage was directed at her. All of these bitches were officially on my shit list. "Anyone who had a teen mother is going to have some hidden issues that make it impossible for that person to be taken seriously on a mature, adult level."
"As in you'd never fuck him no matter what, right?" Lindsey asked.
"You got it," Claire smirked. "There's probably some kind of thing that would make me become a teen mother, too."
"I could never have a kid," Erika said. "Period. I'm never having kids. There's no way I'd be able to go through all that torture."
"Well I think that I'm still going to have kids," Claire said. "Just not with anyone who had teenaged parents."
Mia laughed and said, "Sounds like you'd better get thorough background checks for any guy you date."
"One of the few advantages of having a father in the police," Claire said.
The last few parts of their conversation I had largely phased out. I was seething with venomous fury. I wanted all of them to pay for what they had just said. You know it's so easy to make fun of someone without that person having a chance to defend him or herself. But this was low. Making a game out of it? Making fun of someone because their mother was impregnated as a teen? That's some pretty low, scum-sucking shit.
I wished they would all realize how tired they were and just go to sleep. This would give me some time to think of an appropriate revenge. It was 12:30. I had quite a few hours to think.
