Lyle woke up on Saturday in his dorm room. He had slept till 11:00 because he wasn't
expecting this Saturday to be any different than any other lazy Saturday. He did start to
get dressed thinking he might go to the park or find something to do. He turned on his
computer to check his email.
Suddenly a message flashed on his computer.
"A IS FOR ANT"
Then his computer returned to normal.
Lyle stopped what he was doing to check out the computer. He wondered if he'd gotten a
computer virus but other than that strange flash of a message, his computer seemed
perfectly normal.
Than Lyle began to feel itchy and dry. He started scratching and noticed that his skin had
become flaky. His vision was becoming strange as well. He quickly went to the bathroom
wondering if he was sick but was surprised when he saw his face turning bright red. The
his shape began to change. His head, his upper chest and his lower torso grew larger but
his legs and arms grew skinnier. The details of his body such as his hair, belly button and
fingernails smoothed out as his skin hardened into a shell like substance. New protrusions
grew out of his sides and from the top of his head. Before he had a chance to scream, his
mouth had turned sideways and his vocal cords disappeared. He could feel the changes
that were going on inside of him as well though he couldn't tell what was happening. He
also began to shrink.
When he finally figured out what had happened, he was an ant. Then the dorm room
vanished and he found himself in an anthill. Somehow he understand what his fellow ants
communicated. Lyle still had a human mind and his memories were intact but when he
tried to express who he was, none of the other ants understood. To them, Lyle had always
been an ant and this story he told of being human was nonsense. Eventually they applied
enough peer pressure that Lyle got back to working for the good of the anthill.
This lasted all day. At the end of the day, Lyle was tired and he didn't know if ants slept or
not but Lyle fell asleep.
The next morning he woke up and he was back in his dorm room. He quickly checked
himself and reassured himself that he was a normal human again. He got up and started
getting dressed. He turned on the computer to find out what was going on in the world
and discovered that it was Saturday again at 11:00. He wondered if the ant experience
might have been just a vivid dream.
Suddenly a message flashed on his computer.
