I sat in my car and pulled my wallet out from my pocket. I flipped it open and pulled a picture out from one of it's pockets. The picture was of Molly and I, before she transformed. I took in what used to be her human face and was once again blown away by the contrast. Before Molly's change, she was about 5'8", with long dark hair and the cutest smile I had ever seen. Now, she's 4'6", with short fur, and the cutest smile I had ever seen. I sighed and folded the picture up and put it away. I exited the car and looked around. Everyone was scurrying along, minding their own business as if nothing had changed. If they only knew. I walked up to the door of our apartment and walked in.
"Honey, I'm home!" I shouted. "I'm upstairs!" Molly's muffled voice came from the stairway. I kicked off my shoes and ambled up the staircase, anxious to see her after a long day. Just as made it to the top, she opened the bathroom door. We looked at each other for a moment before we hugged. I didn't care that she was slightly shorter than I was, or that she had dark gray fur on her back, the top of her head, the top of her arms, and the top of her tail. I didn't care that she had a slight muzzle, or pads on her hands and feet. I was just glad to be with her.
"I missed you Molly." I said. "I missed you too Nate." She looked up at me, and I stared down into her big hazel eyes. "So, how was your day?" I asked.
"Oh, the usual."
"That boring, huh?" She nodded with a giggle. Who would have thought she would still be her after her transformation? I would be the only one.
"It's too bad you don't have anyone to talk to or anything to do during the day." I said.
"Well, who would want to have a chat with person who is half Husky and half human?"
"I would." She smiled
"Yes, and I love you for it!" I paused for a moment.
"I have an idea." I said. Her ears twitched and her tail swung to one side.
"What?"
"How would you like it if I could get you a job?" Her ears twitched again. She seemed to be thinking it over. "What kind of a job?" She asked.
"Probably as a receptionist. If I really tried, I might be able to have someone consider hiring you for a desk job like mine." She tilted her head to one side for a moment, then looked back up at me.
"Well, I don't know." she said. "I mean, most people haven't been very friendly towards me." I sighed.
"Look Molly, there is nothing for you to do at home. If you had something to get you out and about everyday, things would probably be easier for you!"
"But Nate, I can't just drop out of school! You were lucky enough your dad had enough influence to get you your job!"
"Molly, you know everyone at school is ignorant! More than half of the students there had to repeat at least one year of school! And your parents- oh don't even get me started on them!" Molly quieted down immediately. Her parents were a touchy subject for both of us.
After she had transformed, Molly's parents had basically erased her from existence. They never talked to her unless she spoke to them first, they gave her meals in a pet dish, and they made her move to the basement. She didn't tell me about any of this until I came over to her house after school one day. When her mother showed me to Molly's new "room", I took one look at Molly's mother and cracked. Those little Gremlins at school were bad enough, but being treated like an animal by her own parents was something I had to act on. I helped Molly up and told her to move in with me. Her mother seemed like she couldn't care less.
Molly sighed. "I just want people to accept me." I nodded and embraced her.
