Jess, bemused by the strangeness of her friend's transformation into a drop dead gorgeous woman felt like she was in a dream. The moment she stepped into Mary's home it was down the rabbit hole. Vials that could make you become anything? It wasn't real. Was it? Well, dream or reality, Jess's interest was piqued. Rabbit hole...rabbits...
Jess blushed at her thoughts and lowered her eyes, embarrassed. Here she was thinking of rabbits instead of the more down-to-earth choice Mary made for making herself more beautiful. But...the idea of having to long ears, a twitching nose and that cute tail to die for, it was what she wanted to experience. Making one's self more beautiful was only following the unreasonable fashions of the culture. So, why not go the other way and be something else?
"So, Jess?" Mary asked. "You shouldn't need to feel embarrassed about anything. I won't judge your choice." Mary reached over and put a hand on Jess's shoulder. "You know that my first choice was a cow? How could anything be more embarrassing than that?" Mary offered Jess a smile and watched her eyes look up over her eyebrows and catch Mary's smile. A half smile crept over Jess's own face.
"Your right. Who would be caught dead wanting to be a cow?" Jess said. Still, it wasn't easy to give up her desire, even with Mary's coaxing. Taking a deep breath, heart pounding, Jess took the dive. "I wanna be a rabbit." She said and immediately turned beet red.
"A rabbit, eh?" Mary smiled widely. "That is awesome. You'll make the cutest rabbit ever!" Jess couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it. Mary went over to the vials and started rummaging through the drawers, looking for the right vial. "Ah ha!" Mary pulled out a vial that looked like it held a shimmering translucent liquid that seemed to move from clear to pink to yellow, depending on the light. Mary handed the vial to Jess. "Remember, the more you drink the more rabbit you'll become."
Jess took the vial and examined it closely. It certainly didn't look like water. The subtle shifts of color were mesmerizing. It's magic, right? Well, why wouldn't it be a little out of the world? Jess unstopped the vial and with a shrug of her shoulders brought it to her lips.
