Lisa presses against the wire mesh of the Newfoundland kennel as Nancy obeys her alpha and backs out of reach. Silent whine building in her throat she swallows to keep the sound from escaping her muzzle. “Yes….as you say Ashley.”
The guard bitches move on but Lisa casts a look back to the huddled Newfoundland pack as she and her sister pad down to the north kennel wing.
The zoo lady Sarah having been woke up by the canine barking watches from a shadowed doorway down the south kennel wing. Nancy not rebelling against the wishes of her pack brings a smile to the humans face and a wag to her tail stump. “A very canine behavior.” She says to herself while opening a notebook and making a few notes under the entry for Nancy.
The bitch German shepherd wakes at the words of the human. Sleepily the female cuddles closer to her litter of puppies as she watches Sarah silently while her tail thumps against the cement floor.
“Yes you’re a good girl. And your puppies are all beautiful.” Sarah tells the bitch softly so as not to wake any of the other dogs in near by kennel pens. Smiling she remembers how reluctant this female had been and all the trouble it took to breeding her to the male. Overly aggressive even for a female in heat she was forced to muzzle the bitch and hold her still for the male.
But as the telephone begins ringing in the office Sarah is snapped out of her daydreaming. “Guess its no more sleep for me.” She tells herself with a chuckle. Wondering who could be calling she pads off to her office wishing idly that her feet had canine pads as she finds the cement floor to be cool to the touch.
