"What did you do with that?" I asked worriedly.
"What, this?" she asked, mocking me. "Nothing much."
"Nothing much?" I demanded, standing up.
She sat up on the couch and said, "Well you used it on me. So I thought I'd return the favor."
"How?" I asked.
"I knew after I started making love with you that I had to have you," she said. "I had already put the ring on, so I wished that you would be my girlfriend forever."
"What??" I asked. I collapsed down onto the couch. I was now doomed to be a girl forever.
"Look," she said, "I didn't hurt you. I want you."
"But I have a life," I said. "A mother, everything..."
"I'm sure I can fix that," she said. "I wish you were always a girl and that you have the same life besides that."
"Well that's all very well and good," I complained, "but you did this without giving me a choice."
She rolled over on top of me and squeezed her legs around my body. "Look," she said with anger in her eyes. "You used me first. Now I could have hurt you, but I didn't. I want to love you, and I want you to love me."
I didn't know what to say. Something else was bothering me. I remembered the old lady told me to wish that no one could take the ring off my hand. So how did Tabitha get it? I thought of only one explanation: Because I changed myself, making my fingers thinner by becoming a girl, technically I had taken the ring off myself. It must have been fair game since it fell off. She just happened to notice and take advantage. I hadn't told her that part of the story, and I wasn't about to now.
Finally I spoke. "I don't know, Tabitha. This is going to take some getting used to." I paused for a moment. "But I don't have a choice, now do I?"
She grinned a somewhat evil grin. "No, you don't." She loosened her grip on me. Damn, her legs were strong. I was running short on breath. She got off of me and said, "Come on, we're going to have some fun."
