"So there's more." There's no way to keep the concern out of your voice.
"You did like the first part." Lucy smiles. "You got height, strength, probably speed... me, I got silver hair. I was a brunette before, if you can believe that."
"Is there any way to change back?"
"Change back?" Lucy looks aghast, but the twinkle in her eye tells you it's friendly mockery. "Sonja, you'll only change forward. You've already accepted it. And why would you want to change back when you're already becoming... more." Lucy flits fingertips through her hair. "You know, you did growl at Nina. You'll owe her an apology and some acceptance when you see her again."
You blink at that, and then it comes to you. On the phone. You remember that growl that came so easily from the pit of your throat. You touch there.
"Wish I could have heard it," Lucy sighs. "But that's not what you're concerned about. I'm sure you can guess what happens in an hour or two."
"I'll start changing again," you sigh.
"No."
You take a long, relieved breath that comes out with an entirely different sound.
"But you'll want to," Lucy says. "It could be glorious. It could be painful. It could be that you resist it enough for it to hide. But then, one night, away from this place, away from us who understand, it will come upon you again under the full moon, and then..."
"Wait, we're talking about werewolves here?"
Lucy points to the necklace you wear. "It's already too late to consider staying the meek, dainty person you were. You've already changed out of that human self by coming here and challenging us."
You blink at this. "Is... is that what I did?"
"Well, you just faced down two of the stronger sisters. At one time." Lucy looks amused by the whole thing. "But then again, those two are parts of a whole, so it only counts as one." Frankie sneers from across the room. Lucy gives her a sweet smile... and the finger.
"If I decide to go home... it won't go away... will it?"
"No."
"And if I decide to stay?"
"Then for the next hour or two, we prepare you for what is going to flow through your body to reshape and remake you. It will free you among us in ways you'll never forget."
"Prepare me."
"Sister talk. Like... 'the talk'... oh come on, women get to talk openly about their bodies where guys don't." Lucy shakes her head. "It's always so much harder with them."
A wisp of giddy absurdity sweeps through you, as if this would be a slumber party for the new werewolf girl in town. You blush as you think of yourself that way... and you look at your hands, wondering...
"So stay. Stay and we'll guide you through it. It can be a real thrill if you fully accept it. You can even test it out before the moon comes to tempt you... so you can get used to it... or..."
"Or?"
Lucy frowns. "Or you go back to the chalet to fight it. Alone. All night long. And it might be years before the pain stops, even if you manage to hold in this part of you that you've already let change you this far."
A night of terror. Just like in the movies. More than that. Or... down the rabbit hole.
"So, what will it be?"
