Jen was still trying to figure out what she was going to try next when she heard her mom call out "Dinner's
ready!" Her dad (or should was he now her mom too?) immediately got up from the couch and turned around to
walk to the dining room. Spotting Jen he (she?) smiled and said "Hi honey. Didn't see you there. You coming?"
Jen, turned and began following her former father, warily, still considering what she might change next.
However, when her new mother and her old mother finally met, Jen changed her mind. Jen had been worried about
how her two mothers would react when they finally saw each other, but she needn't have worried. As soon as her
parents spotted each other, they smiled and her former father walked over to her mother and gave a kiss before
helping her set the table. Both them acted as if they'd done this hundreds of times before.
Jen was taken aback by what she'd just seen, but at the same time she found the image of her two mothers
kissing more than a little amusing, espcially considering how straight-laced her parents had been. Curious she
brought up her parents profiles one at a time on the remote., flipping through the various displays until she
found the tab that conrolled sexual orientation. According to the remote, both her mother was strictly
homosexual, while her former father was bisexual, with a 68% preference towards women. Thinking back, Jen
remembered reading something about reality altering after the "Accept" button was pushed in the instruction
manual. That what be must be what happened here. I made my dad a woman, so of course they had to become
lesbians for them to stay together. And they both remember me as their daughter instead of their son, cuz
thats what I made myself. They probably won't notice any of the other changes either. Jen looked down at
the remote, not entirely comfortable with the fact that it could make changes she didn't ask it too. I
better be careful or this thing might just rearrange my life when I'm not looking. Out of curiosity, she
pointed the remote at herself and brought up her own profile. Flipping through the tabs until she reached the
sexual orientation tab, she saw that she was listed as "bi" with a 59% preference for women. That threw Jen
off for a second. That can't be right. I mean if thats true, then I like guys almost as much as I like
girls. But I don't like guys, do I? Before she could answer her own question, her mother (the first one)
called her in for dinner and she was forced to slip the remote into her pocket and join her family in the
dining room.
Looking around the table, Jen reviewed her handiwork. First there was Holly: the former 18 year old was sitting sulkily, picking at her plate. Her attitude obviously hadn't improved much (might have to do something about that) but at least she was easier to ignore. Anna was gushing about her latest acceptance letter (Dartmouth) and the approaching prom (with Steve Jacobs). Jesse (formerly Jessica) seemed bored with all the girl talk, his thoughts probably occupied with visions of Jessica Wilmer (ironic isn't it). And then of course, there were her parents. Best of all, no one seemed aware that just hours ago things had been completely different. The reality altering capacity of the remote was working full force, even on Jen, who found that when needed she was able to perfectly recall the knowledge and memories of her new life. While the extent of the changes gave her pause, she had to admit aside from a few snags, things were proving easier than she had dared hope.
