Jen was about to open her locker when a sudden blur to her right caught her eye. Looking to over, she found
herself face to face with Rachel Levine, one of the girls in her grade. "Well?" she said eagerly. Confused,
Jen could only reply "Well what?" "Well how did it go? C'mon you promised details." Jen was rather confused.
Rachel had never paid any attention to Ben, but things were obviously different as Jennifer. But it still
didn't change the fact that she had no idea what Rachel was referring to. So, acting on instinct she simply
smiled coyly and said "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Uh huh. Yeah sure so you just happened to forget about date with Alex, the boy you've been crushing on
since 8th grade, in between now and Friday? I don't think so." Jen was taken aback. The thought that she might
actually have a boyfriend hadn't occurred to her before that moment. Her mind began racing as she began to
worry about this new development. Her panic only increased when she heard Rachel say "Ooh look whose headed
this way. Maybe I need to give you two a moment?" Jen, her heart racing, would have given anything to escape
as she shot a glance down the hall and saw Alex Shaw making a beeline straight for her. "Crap crap crap" she
muttered frantically, unconsciously reaching out to Rachel for support. "Oh quit it you big baby you look
fine." Jennifer glared at her best friend who simply smirked back.
This momentary distraction gave Alex the opening he needed to make his way to Jen unnoticed. Catching her
off guard, he spun her around, wrapped his arms around her and pulled the surprised girl in close and kissed
her full on the lips. Surprised as she was, Jen's mind was in complete turmoil and unsure of how to react, so
instinct took over. Her arms moved without prompting until her hands were against Alex's chest ready to push
him away. Her mind, however, soon developed different ideas. After a brief second of turmoil, Jen found
herself succumbing to the unexpected flood of hormones the kiss was causing, and her arms moved from Alex's
chest to around his neck. After a few seconds they broke away and Alex gave her a smile and said accusingly
"You never called like you promised."
Jen, who had no recollection of this panicked for a brief second trying to find the right words to say. But
as if on queue, her mouth started moving and she heard herself say "You're just lucky I didn't do what they
always say and wait three days." Jen had no idea where the words had come from, but Alex seemed to be
expecting her response and said "Oh now why would you do that? Is it me? Do I come off as too desperate?" Jen
found herself smirking and saying "Maybe. You are kind of needy, and a bit moody" a bit more flirtatiously
than she meant too, but her body seemed to have taken on a life of its own, as if someone else was guiding her
actions.
"Hmm, maybe we need some time apart. See you tonight?" Without waiting for her answer, Alex gave her a
quick peck on the cheek before rushing off. Jen gazed at his retreating back. She knew that it should strike
her as weird to be attracted to a guy. But when Alex turned to look back at her she couldn't help but blush a
bit and look away. As she looked back to Rachel, who was still smirking at her, she felt an unwilling smile
begin to creep onto her face. Rachel kept right on leering at her until Jen, unable to help herself, burst out
laughing. Shoving her friend playfully she said embarrassedly "shut up shut up shut up" before turning, face
still red, and opening her locker. Remembering what the remote had said the night before, she thought to
herself Huh, I guess I do like guys. This reality alteration stuff is really getting outta hand.
At that point, yet another distraction presented itself in the form of...
