David and Toby looked at each other, each at a loss to explain what was happening. Toby scanned the room looking for anything to help. Everything seemed normal at first glance. A simple wooden desk at the end of a mundane looking office with cement walls and no windows. David walked to the room's only door. He walked with hit right arm extended in front of him to detect any more invisible walls. Mere inches from the knob David's hand was stopped by the invisible force.
"It feels like it is pushing back at me. It isn't smooth or solid like a wall" David explained.
Toby stood next to his partner. He tried pushing against the force with both hands, but the more he pushed the more it seemed to push back. David's face brightened as he suddenly got an idea.
"Toby, I think I got it. This thing will push back at us no matter how hard we push at it on this side. But, what if we push at it from both sides? That may just be too much for it to process."
Toby shrugged, "It is worth trying, but get ready to back away if this thing starts doing anything else."
David walked to the opposite end of the room. Just before he reached the desk he reached out and found the wall. "Ok, on three. One,.... two,..... three!"
Both men pushed against the walls with all their might. A low pitched hum started to fill the room and the light began to flicker. Taking this as a positive reaction, David slammed his whole body against the wall. The hum disappeared the wall ceased to function. David almost toppled over when the field vanished. When he regained his footing he pumped his fist in the air triumphantly. "Hell ya! that got it."
Toby smiled inwardly. He was glad to be done with that obstacle, but he feared they were not out of the woods yet. "Lets hurry on outta here before that thing comes back online." He opened the door to peek out and see what was waiting for them. Once he realized that the police building they were in was no longer behind the door he opened it to get a full view for them both.
Instead of the police station, there was a long windowless corridor. The walls had a shiny metallic look to them with lights every few feet. The corridor appeared to go on for a couple of yards and then sloped gently to right.
"Looks like we don't have much choice" Toby spoke. "We best keep moving."
Upon reaching the first turn they noticed several closed doorways along each wall. Further down the hallway they could hear what seemed to be soft moans.
