Alex opened the door to reveal his friends Sara, Nate and Rory and quickly allowed them to enter from the cool night air. He led them into the dining room, where the game book, "Werewolf Moon Hike" laid on the table.
"I found these game books at a sale downtown, I thought this one looked the coolest," said Alex.
Nate picked up the book and admired the cover for a moment, a picture depicting a large, furry werewolf, with sharp claws and teeth terrorizing a group of friends.
"Cool," whispered Nate as he flipped through it. He had always had a thing for werewolves and was eager to play the game.
"Now then, we just need everyone to fill out their character sheets," said Alex, hanging out blank sheets to his friends.
Sara filled hers out about the same as she was in real life:
Player: Sara
Character: Sara
Age: 16
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Rory filled his out similarly, keeping his name and age. They both put their sheets in the folder and waited as Nate pondered his sheet. Nate filled his out as such:
Player: Nate
Character: Nate
Age: 16
Race: Werewolf
He put down the pencil and placed the sheet in the folder and placed the game book on top. As they did this, their surroundings slowly faded away, replaced with a mountain trail, surrounded by dense forest. A full moon shone brightly in the night sky above.
"What the..." exclaimed the group as they looked around.
"This can't be happening!" said Sara.
"It must be some sort of magic..." said Rory. "Hey, Alex looks older!"
Everyone looked at Rory, still recognizably the same, but a bit older. He looked confused though.
"Who is this Alex you speak of? My name is Honru." he replied.
"Oh great, he's turned into his character. Now what are we supposed to do?"
Nate started to feel odd, sweat dripping from his brow. Patches of itchiness all over plagued him. He slowly backed away, scratching all over. He looked up and noticed the full moon and it suddenly dawned on him. Alex had become his character, so it only made sense he would become his. Nate didn't know whether to be excited or scared. He looked down at his hands and already saw the beginnings of fur and his fingernails were growing out into sharp claws.
He debated whether to alert his friends to this development or dash into the woods to transform in secret.
