Transform or Dare?

Reduced possibilities

added 21 years ago

“Since you think people smaller than you are so worthless, you’re going to shrink.”

“Forget it, dipshit!” she screamed angrily, but also somewhat desperately as she slammed the phone down and disconnected. She hoped that by cutting him off,
she could avoid whatever he might try to do with the curse. A curse! It was totally ridiculous anyway. Nervously, she checked her reflection in the mirror. She
looked just the same as before – no transformation, no changes. Well, her bra had slipped a little, but that wasn’t surprising after how upset she’d been. She
tugged it back into place, surprised at how loose the cups seemed. A flash of panic. Could she really be getting smaller? She scolded herself for even considering
such a ridiculous possibility. People couldn’t shrink. She even remembered some physics guy explaining why it was completely impossible. No doubt Martha had
messed things up when she’d washed it. She also tugged at her skirt which had fallen a bit lower on her hips. Tossing the single sock she’d picked aside, she tried
on a pair of tights, only to find that they also seemed too loose, and wrinkled on her legs. That would never do. They made her legs look smaller and thinner, too
girlish. She also noticed that her skirt was riding lower than usual, reaching her lower thigh instead of the mid level it was supposed to show.

She tugged her skirt up again and settled on some standard athletic socks since she would be doing cheerleader practice first anyway. Afterwards, she’d just wear
a pair of sandals. She pulled her cheerleader shirt on, then cursed when her hands briefly became lost in its arms. The shirt hung loose on her upper body, the
bottom dropping to mid thigh. What the hell? Martha must have screwed up again, or maybe she’d grabbed the wrong uniform after classes. She tucked it in,
finding it also helped her skirt fit better, and put on her shoes.

No things were clearly getting ridiculous. Even her shoes seemed loose. A brief moment of panic about whether the curse could be working. Before she could
examine herself more closely to explore her fears, she heard her friend Dawn’s voice at the door.

“Come on! I’ve been waiting out here like forever. We’re gonna be late for practice.”

Cursing silently, Jennifer went to meet her friend and fellow cheerleader, once more tugging at her increasingly poorly fitting skirt and top.

“What’s with your clothes?” Dawn demanded, eyeing Jennifer’s loose uniform critically. The sleeves of her cheerleader sweater hung half over her hands.

“Nothing. Martha screwed up or something,” Jennifer insisted, hoping that was the case.

“Well, you look like a dork.”

“Thanks. Can we go now?” J asked sarcastically.

She hurried by her friend, hoping to forestall further comments. Dawn did a quick double-take when she noticed that she could see over Jennifer’s head. Weren’t
they the same height? She looked to see if there was something weird about their shoes, then once more shrugged and followed her out.
